X-Yachts Boats For Sale
X-Yachts
X-Yachts is a Danish sailing yacht manufacturer founded in 1979 by brothers Niels Jeppesen and Lars Jeppesen together with Birger Hansen, based in Haderslev, Southern Denmark.
From its origins in high-performance racing yachts the company has developed into a well-regarded builder of premium performance cruisers and blue-water yachts while retaining a strong emphasis on sailing quality, engineering and craftsmanship.
Heritage and Construction Philosophy
X-Yachts has built its reputation on a foundation of marine engineering excellence. The yard maintains in-house moulding, carpentry and design departments, emphasising local control of production and high build quality.
The company’s early successes in International Offshore Rule (IOR) racing in the 1980s helped establish its credentials; for example a model from the yard won the Three-Quarter Ton Cup in 1981 and 1982.
The build philosophy emphasises a strong hull/keel girder, functional deck layouts, and use of advanced materials (such as epoxy sandwich lamination) to ensure longevity, stiffness and performance.
Current Model Ranges
For the UK market, where sailing conditions vary and high-quality build counts, X-Yachts offers three main lines:
Xc (X Cruising): Designed for comfortable long-distance cruising, blue-water capable yet still responsive.
Xp (X Performance): Sportier yachts with sharper handling and performance emphasis — suitable for owners who may cruise but also enjoy the odd club race or spirited passage.
X (often called Pure X or XRange): Introduced around 2016, this range blends performance and luxury, with modern styling and spacious interiors.
Recent models include the X40, X43, X46, and X56 from the XRange series.
Older or “Classic” Models
The heritage of X-Yachts is strong among UK and European sailors and so mentioning some older models is valuable:
X 79: The first model (launched 1979) — a one-design that still has an active class.
X 99: Launched in 1985 and produced in large numbers (about 605 built) — still seen on the second-hand market and in active club fleets.
X 332: A 1990s model praised for its blend of performance and comfort, very popular and regarded as something of a “classic” X-Yacht.
Xp 44: A more recent older model (2011), performance oriented, which won “Sailing World Yacht of the Year” in its category.
These models can be of particular interest in the UK market for owners looking for high quality second-hand performance yachts with strong pedigree.
